SUSTAINABILITY AT ISTH 2023 (1).png

As we approach the ISTH 2023 Congress, the ISTH is committed to acting sustainability and environmentally responsible in as many ways as possible. To achieve this, the Society has implemented several actions to reduce its environmental impact. See a few of the initiatives below.

Paperless practices:
The ISTH no longer prints an abstract book, state-of-the-art book, extended program book or daily newspaper. These can now all be found online. We also no longer allow paper inserts from supporters to be included in your Congress bag. Combined, these actions save at least 15 million pages of paper, or approximately 1,500 trees.

Removal of plastic badge holders:

In 2023, the ISTH Congress will no longer use plastic badge holders, eliminating a significant source of waste.

Sustainable food practices:
In conjunction with the Palais des Congrès de Montréal, the ISTH is taking great care to use the most environmentally friendly containers for boxed lunches, which can be composted. Additionally, any leftover food is donated to local organizations.

To prevent waste, we also encourage all attendees to bring their own water bottles, which can be refilled conveniently throughout the convention center.

Carbon offsetting:
For the first time in 2023, the ISTH is offering carbon offsetting services in partnership with Planetair, a pioneering organization which supports individuals, businesses and organizations seeking to evaluate, reduce and offset their ecological footprint and especially their climate impact. Please use their calculator to estimate your carbon footprint in traveling the ISTH 2023 Congress, and then make the appropriate donation to help neutralize your impact on the climate. Please use promo code: ISTH2023 when completing your payment so that we can track the total carbon offsets contributed by our attendees. Calculate and contribute here.

Other sustainable practices at the Palais:
The Palais des Congrès de Montréal is internationally renowned as a leader in their commitment to the environment, with ongoing projects involving including recycling, carbon offsetting, food distribution, and more. Click here to read more.

Through these actions and more, the ISTH continues to evolve our best practices by adopting policies that align with the goal of reducing our environmental impact. These initiatives demonstrate the Society's dedication to preserving the planet for future generations.
